This was another way they had made the growing of vegetables an art form. Instead of plain old rows of corn, they had put them in a circle. It was early days, but they should become a real centre piece soon.

A Place Like Home
August 16th, 2011 — Uncategorised
This is a picture of the inside of one of the ?sheds?. It has a really homely feel to it. According to the gardens, this is how they would have been set out in Victorian times. I can imagine why they were so popular all those years ago.

I cant quite remember why I wanted to take a picture of this until I remembered that I thought the way they had wound the string around the middle was a good idea to stop mine blowing over in the wind.
It doesn?t always happen, but if we have had a particularly windy summer the bean poles can lean decidedly to one side, so this should help.

Stones

I liked these stones along the edge of this border.
In my garden I have just used the plastic edging to stop the grass moving over into the border, but I like the idea that you could make a feature out of the edge.
I seem to have plenty of stones in my garden ? I am forever digging them up ? but have never had an idea of what to do with them other than take them to the tip. I feel a project coming on.
Bird Bath

I always wanted to have something like this around my bird bath, but have never been able to as it is in an awkward position in my garden. If I did this I would cut off access to the water butt. Shame.
Two multi-coloured bottles on the wall

These were some old bottles in one of the refurbished garden sheds. I hesitate to call them this as they were brick built and had a fireplace and chairs inside. They were used as refuges from the monotonous daily existence during the six day week.
I particularly like the ginger beer one as I often liked this as a child. They make our modern bottles look so boring.
I think the tiles are just there to show that the tenants used to tile the inside of the ?shed? to make it more comfortable than bare brick.
Wood Does You Good

I took this in a garden in Warwick on a recent trip. It was Hill Close Gardens. They are old allotments from Victorian times. This was when people used their gardens to grow food to help them survive and also to relax from the dirty bustle of the city.
I will post more pictures as I get to edit them.
